Mini Review: Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner

“A gentle, alcohol-free facial toner for all skin types. Fragrance-free.”

Why I tried it:

I first got this as a gift from my aunt for Christmas a few years ago, and I was SO happy! I’d used a number of Kiehl’s products before then and absolutely loved what they do for my skin — it’s hydrated, moisturized, soft, and even.

What I loved:

First, the texture: I love milky toners so much because they feel so much more hydrating than other formulas I’ve tried in the past. I apply my facial toners as my first step after getting out of the shower (after drying off my body, of course; I don’t have time to dry my floors every day!). Sometimes my face can feel tight or overly stripped from my cleansers, and I find that my skin feels instantly balanced and happy as soon as I apply this to my face. It soaks in pretty quickly (in about a minute or less); I help to speed this along by fanning my face as I have my bombshell moment while getting ready.

This wouldn’t be a Monday’s Edit review without talking about the ingredients in the formula! Glycerin (2nd ingredient) is an excellent humectant that helps to draw water into the skin — kind of like a magnet for water. Squalane (3rd ingredient) is an oil-like emollient derived from squalene, a lipid (fat) naturally found in our sebum; it helps to reduce transepidermal water loss (fancy way to say water evaporating from the top layer of your skin). For readers with dry skin, this is an ingredient that your skin will love you for; and despite its oil-like texture, squalane can work well for a range of skin types, not just dry skin. There are also several plant-derived oils including sweet almond and avocado oils, both rich in fatty acids that act as emollients to help soften the skin and support moisture retention.

What I didn’t love:

I genuinely don’t have anything bad to say about this product. It’s become a go-to product for me for daily use and especially when my skin barrier feels compromised. I will say it is a fairly expensive product; however, a little bit goes a long way. I use about a quarter-sized amount of the product for my face every day (sometimes twice a day). For some context, I opened my current jumbo bottle in November 2025, use it every day (sometimes twice a day), and I’m still working through the same bottle nine months later. The standard-size bottle is $26; I am currently still working on my jumbo bottle ($39).

Who I think it’s for:

This is a great toner for anyone who might be looking to get into more luxury or high-end skincare. It’s also great for anyone that feels like their skin is thirsty and asking for a little bit more hydration without feeling too oily.

The verdict:

Rating: 5/5 ★★★★★

Bottom line: This is a great facial toner for anyone with dry skin or a compromised skin barrier. It is fairly expensive, but the product works and does exactly what it claims to do. This is a product I would not hesitate to purchase again.

Have you tried this or any other products from Kiehl’s? What’s your current go-to toner? Let me know!

With love,

Ash ♡
