“Real fruit inside real candy.” – Fruit Riot. I tried Fruit Riot for the first time, here are my thoughts! Should you add this to your next grocery list?
Why I tried it
If you’ve never met anyone with a perpetual sweet tooth… hi, it’s nice to meet you, I’m Ash! 👋🏾
I’ve been seeing Fruit Riot all over Instagram and TikTok (and of course on my regular Target runs) and finally decided to buy my first bag.
What I loved
I’m a sucker for good packaging and this does not disappoint. Fun, bright colors and close up shots that give you an idea of what lies inside.
I like to enjoy a few of these when I’m craving something light and refreshing. I take out a few (usually around five or six) and let them thaw a little before digging in — usually about 5-10 minutes. Temperatures in the Northeast recently have been in the high 80s/low 90s making this the perfect refreshing treat to enjoy.
The chili lime outer coating is tangy and sour when it first hits the tongue. Then you meet a crunchy yet light outer coating before getting into the soft center (and the star of the show): the mango. The individual pieces of mango are soft and sweet — the perfect contrast to that delicious chili lime coating.
For me, because it’s sweet, tangy, and sour, I don’t find that I can stuff these into my mouth in rabid succession. It can quickly become too much too fast (unlike my Kryptonite: Dark Chocolate Reese’s Thins). Because of that, this has become a treat I eat in moderation, making it perfect for my current fitness journey. Have I mentioned that I have no self-control when it comes to dessert? 😂
The other great thing about this is that it reminds me of when I used to live in California. There would be women in the streets, selling fresh fruit, covered with as much Tajín, lime, and chamoy to your heart’s desire. Somehow, it made fresh fruit even more appetizing on a hot day while you were stuck in traffic. Fruit Riot gives me a little bit of that same sweet, tangy, spicy experience straight from my freezer.

What I didn’t love
I don’t love how little comes in a package! I usually have five or six pieces when I decide to indulge; that breaks down to about four servings per bag.
Although, now that I see it in writing, it averages out to around $1.50 per serving; that’s pretty good in my opinion! But they should definitely make larger bags.
Who I think it’s for
This is the perfect dessert for anyone who loves fruit and really wants to switch up how they’re eating it. Mango is one of my absolute favorites so I think that this was a great introduction to Fruit Riot. They have a whole bunch of other fun fruit and flavor combinations, including sour grapes, pineapple, and blueberry, so I’m definitely interested in trying more.
The verdict
Rating: 5/5 ★★★★★
Bottom line: If you love fruit with fun flavors, this is definitely a treat that belongs in your freezer. If you’re a mango fan who loves that sweet-sour-spicy combination, start with this flavor. It’s like a tiny Mexican vacation hiding in your freezer.
I think my next bag will be the sour pineapple. Let me know if you’ve tried this or any of their other flavors!
With love,
Ash ♡
