Top 5 TV Shows to Binge This Month

These 5 TV shows had me in a chokehold last month. Hopefully you enjoy one of them 🙂

1. Beauty in Black

Where to watch: Netflix

This show is a Tyler Perry Original on Netflix. Without giving too much away, the show follows a young woman, Kimmie, who’s been dealt a rough hand in life. By the end of season 1, her life takes a complete 180 and season 2 keeps the momentum going. Netflix just announced that the 3rd season will be available for streaming on August 27! Plenty of time to catch up on the drama before new episodes drop.

While there are sometimes that the acting feels a bit stiff, but the story lines will keep you hooked! There’s drama in every episode that kept me on the edge of my couch. Watch this show if you’re ok with themes of violence, nudity, and drug use.

2. 3 Body Problem

Where to watch: Netflix

Let me start off by saying, you know you’re in for a good series because this was created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (creators of Game of Thrones) with Alexander Woo. The show follows a group of 5 physicists based in London, England as they navigate an extraterrestrial race threatening to take over our planet. Apparently Season 2 is in post-production, so plenty of time to catch up on the series before new episodes are released.

The first season is based on the first book in the trilogy series by Chinese author Cixin Liu ‘The Three Body Problem.’ From what I’ve read, each season will cover one book in the series. I recently got my dad into the show and he’s eager for the next season to drop! And the show is so good, I started reading the book series as well. This is a must watch if you’re into sci-fi, aliens, physics/ STEM topics.

3. Abbott Elementary

Where to watch: Cable TV Subscription, HBO Max, Hulu

This show has had be in a chokehold since it first premiered back in December 2021. This is one of my comfort shows that I turn to whenever I need a good laugh, especially after a long day at work.

I’ve been obsessed with Quinta Brunson since she was in her early Buzzfeed Days and making videos on YouTube back in the early 2010s. There isn’t a single episode that won’t have you clutching your sides from laughter. I love watching this show with my mom when I’m home and we also got my dad to watch a few episodes too – he was also clutching his sides from laughter at scenes. Watch this if you’re into a good 30-minute sitcom, love the city of Philadelphia, and are ok getting an ab workout on a Wednesday evening.

4. The Circle

Where to watch: Netflix

I am a sucker for reality television, I couldn’t tell you what drew me to this one. I feel like it started out as something mindless that I out on to make so background noise… I’ve now seen 5 of the 7 seasons and turn this show on to go to bed as mindless background noise – I will say that there are some times when I just HAVE to rewind an episode because I couldn’t remember who got eliminated and I can’t stand to miss any drama!

I’ve heard that the show is getting moved to Hulu for the next season, so Netflix is the place to watch it for now. A must watch if you’re a lover of competition reality television.

5. Not Suitable for Work

Where to watch: Hulu

Let me tell you, I love Jay Ellis. I have loved this man since I first watched Insecure way back when. He is a good actor and I don’t think I’ve missed a single one of his projects. This was one of those shows that’s definitely geared toward a younger demographic. I was feeling a little nostalgic of my college/early post-college days and I think that’s what turned me onto this show. The show follows 5 young recent college grads in NYC chasing their dreams; two in finance (Jay Ellis plays their boss), one in fashion, one in television/broadcasting, and one in medical school (but going through a quarter life crisis).

It’s definitely lower on my list of shows to rewatch, but I could see myself watching the next season. A good watch if you’re young at heart or feel like reminiscing about your early post-college days.

Let me know if you decide to watch one of these shows and let me know what you think! And leave me some recs for my next binge 🎥

With love,

Ash ♡
