Season 3 of Beauty in Black dropped today on Netflix, and I wasted no time tucking into the first episode! I’m going to try my best to keep this spoiler-free.

Why I watched it

I LOVE this series! It was one of the TV shows I recommended in my very first post! I got home after work and realized that new episodes started streaming today, so you know I wasted no time getting settled in to watch the season premiere.

What I loved

It picked up exactly where Season 2 left off without skipping a beat. There was a good balance of drama and calm moments throughout the episode that made it a nice, easy watch. Within the first 10 minutes of the episode, you already get a look at all the major characters, and the episode ends with a good cliffhanger to draw you into the next episode. By the end of the episode, I was left excited to see how the remainder of the season plays out. There are so many moving parts that make for a great viewing experience.

Who/What Stole It

This season, I’m excited to see the Kimmie/Horace and Rain/Alex relationships develop. I’m trying so hard not to give spoilers away, but there were some scenes in this first episode involving these characters that either left me with my jaw on the floor in shock or howling with laughter. From the previous seasons, you already know there’s some chemistry between Kimmie and Horace. Now that Horace is back in full force, I can’t wait to see that relationship develop even more!

I’m also hoping that Norman (Richard Lawson) gets more screen time this season. He has such an interesting storyline that we’ve been seeing develop over the last two seasons. After watching this episode, it feels like we’ll be getting some more answers this season about his character and how he’s built the dark side of the Bellarie beauty empire.

What I’m watching for

There are so many storylines that I want — no, NEED — to know more about and see unfold:

• What’s going to happen to Olivia?!
• Is Charles going to go off the deep end?
• How are the characters arrested by the FBI going to get out of this, or what’s going to happen to them?

I need to see more of the Alex-Trackson drama; there’s a good story there!! We’re given a glimpse into more of Alex’s life outside of Jules and the Bellaries — I need more detail on that!!

The verdict

This was a GREAT first episode to kick off this new season. I already finished the second episode of the season because of the cliffhanger they left me with at the end of the first episode; I couldn’t wait! I was hyping it up in my head and was really excited about this season premiering; it lived up to the hype that I built around it. 

Definitely carve out some time to sit down and watch it today or this weekend if you’ve already caught up on the previous seasons. The slow-burn storylines that made the previous seasons so great are definitely showing their ugly faces this season while new threads continue to unfold.
