“Who says moisturizing masks are just for faces? Lips need love, too! Lucky for you, Trader Joe’s Vanilla Lip Mask is here to perk up your parched, wintry pout with hydration heavy-hitters like shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamin E.” — Trader Joe’s
Why I tried it:
I was first introduced to this product by my sister when we walked Manhattan from tip to tip. It felt so nice, and my lips were so well hydrated after using it that I decided to purchase a pot for myself!
What I loved:
The texture is thick and balmy. I initially thought this would be one of those products that lasted for five minutes on my lips before I needed to reapply, but I was 100% wrong. After applying it in the evening, I can wake up the next morning and my lips are still soft and feel moisturized.
It only comes in a pot, and I think the easiest way to apply it is with your finger. For that reason, this has become the product I use to rehydrate my lips after brushing my teeth. I’m not a fan of dipping my fingers into pots when I’m out and about, so whenever I’m home, this is the lip product I reach for.
The lasting moisture makes sense when you look at the formula. It’s made with coconut, sunflower, and castor oils in addition to shea butter and vitamin E; all ingredients you’d expect to find in a rich, moisturizing lip product.
And after using it consistently, I’ve noticed a difference beyond how my lips feel immediately after application. At the time of writing this review, I’ve owned the product for about three months, and my lips feel softer and more supple than they did before. I also don’t find myself constantly reaching for other lip products throughout the day. Previously, I was the kind of person who would apply ChapStick at every chance I could get.
Then there’s the value. For the price, you really can’t go wrong: 0.7 oz (20 g) will run you around $6, which is fantastic for the amount of product you get. I haven’t used another lip mask like it before, although I’ve heard people compare it to the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I bought my current pot in May 2026, use it a minimum of twice per day (sometimes more), and I haven’t even finished half of it yet. This will last you a long time.

What I didn’t love:
It can leave a bit of a thick film if you apply it with a heavy hand. And I will openly admit to applying too much every now and again. When that happens, I usually wipe off the excess and rub it into my cuticles—and my nails love it! If you tend to be heavy-handed with your lip products, this is something to keep in mind. You really don’t need much.
I’m also not generally a fan of vanilla-scented products. Thankfully, the scent here isn’t overpowering; it’s a light vanilla smell without being nauseating. The formula does contain fragrance, though, so if you don’t like vanilla-scented products or you know your lips are sensitive to fragrance, I’d probably skip this one.
Who I think it’s for:
Anyone looking for a great lip product to keep around the house, in the car, or in your purse or tote. If you find yourself applying ChapStick or other lip products multiple times throughout the day because your lips constantly feel dry or chapped, this is definitely one I’d consider reaching for.
The verdict:
Rating: 5/5 ★★★★★
Bottom line: This lip mask is deeply moisturizing, lasts for hours, and a single pot goes a surprisingly long way. I will absolutely repurchase this. If you’re sensitive to fragrance or don’t like vanilla scents, though, this may be one you’ll want to skip.
